Introduction
In 1986 EL COLEGIO MEXIQUENSE, A.C. was founded as an
initiative of several institutions leaded by the Government of the State of
Mexico. This institution is devoted to research and teaching in the social
science and humanities areas. It is located in the former hacienda of Santa Cruz
de los Patos, in Zinacantepec. The hacienda comprises some buildings that have
been refurbished and made adequate for an institution like this. The property
was built in the 17th century, recently refurbished to provide a comfortable
working environment, ideal for studying, teaching and holding academic meetings,
without forgetting that it is actually a historical site.
EL COLEGIO MEXIQUENSE is part of an integrated network
formed by Colegio de México, Colegio de la Frontera Norte, Colegio de la
Frontera Sur, Colegio de Michoacán, Colegio de Sonora, Colegio de Jalisco,
Colegio de San Luis and the Institute José María Luis Mora, all of which have
close academic exchanges. These collaborations are formalized through agreements
that enrich our work as a public educative center of high standards, whose
compromise is to study and offer solutions to the main problems of the state and
the country.
In this way, EL COLEGIO MEXIQUENSE is interested in
different subjects approaching them through research and offering postgraduate
programmes and diplomas. It is also interested in spreading its work into the
academic circle and society in order to contribute to the analysis and
reflection, as well as the decision making into the public, social and private
sectors. This is achieved through a number of periodic publications,,
communication programmes and consultancy services. The institution is also a
forum open to academic discussion. Therefore, regional, national and
international seminars, meetings and workshops are regularly organized. This
task enables a close contact between research institutes and universities.
After 15 years, the centers and programmes of EL COLEGIO
MEXIQUENSE are going through a consolidation stage, and their purpose is to be
in the forefront of social and humanistic knowledge, showing at the same time
the importance and usefulness of their services and contribute to social
research and teaching with efficiency in the academic work.
